Jesse L. Livermore (杰西•利弗莫尔) "How To Trade In Stocks"

Jesse L. Livermore lived from 1877 to 1940.
He rose from a humble farming background to become a stock trader in Boston. Over the course of his career, he won and lost several fortunes in many arenas. A self-made man with no formal education or trading experience, Jesse L. Livermore focused on making money from the overall market directions and not concentrating on individual stocks. He believed that insider and professional research opinions were not a just means for stock picking as investors had to perform their own analysis.He espoused the strategy of buying and holding during bull markets and selling when market momentum began to shift. He believed that effort was a key component that separated the winners and losers in the investment world.

For forty years Jesse L. Livermore has studied world and domestic economic conditions with almost fanatic intensity. In the same four decades he has studied, talked, dreamed, lived with, and traded in speculative markets. His world has been the movement of prices; his science the correct anticipation of such movements.He created his first sensation when he was fifteen years old. His mother was the party most surprised, for he dumped into her lap a thousand dollars in five dollar bills, his first gleanings from the stock market.He created his next sensation by completing four years of mathematics in a single year while holding a job as board marker in a brokerage house.

Jesse·L·Livermore

Japan hails the heroic 'Fukushima 50'

In Japanese disaster films they like heroes who sacrifice everything for the greater good - stoic, determined, refusing to back down in the face of adversity or even certain death.
These are the qualities the country admires.

Now the newspapers here have a new band of heroes to lionise - the workers, emergency services personnel and the scientists battling to save the Fukushima nuclear plant, their fellow citizens and themselves.
We know little about them, except for the few whose relatives have spoken to the Japanese media.
One woman told the papers her father, who had worked for an electric company for 40 years, had volunteered to help.

He was due to retire in September.

"The future of the nuclear plant depends on how we resolve this crisis," he was reported to have told his daughter. "I feel it's my mission to help."

The small group of workers who stayed at the site as the conditions worsened were dubbed "The Fukushima 50" - although now it is thought there are maybe twice that many working there.

Rick Hallard, who worked in the British nuclear industry for more than 30 years, says the pressure on them will be immense, but that they will probably not feel it until it is over.

"They'll be focusing on the key risks and threats," he says. "They will have a very clear idea of what their priorities are."

'Life on the line'

On Wednesday the government raised the legal limit of radiation they could be exposed to from 100 to 250 millisieverts.

That is more than 12 times the legal dose for workers dealing with radiation under British law.
But you would need to be exposed to a dose probably twice that maximum before you would expect to see the so-called "early effects" people associate with radiation sickness, like a lowering of white blood cells.

You would need a level of exposure in the region of 1,000 millisieverts before you might feel nauseous or feel ill.

The "late effects" of exposure to radiation may not occur for many years. It can increase the likelihood you will develop cancer, but this is only an increased possibility, not a certainty.

The person in charge of the operation will likely be some distance from the reactors, Mr Hallard says.
"You need to be remote from the event to enable you to think," he says, "so that you don't miss things or react too quickly."

"It's important to take the pressure off the person in charge."

The workers might be faceless heroes for the moment, but their bravery has won them the admiration of many Japanese.

"They are sacrificing themselves for the Japanese people," says Fukuda Kensuke, a white collar worker in Tokyo. "I feel really grateful to those who continue to work there."

"They're putting their life on the line," agrees Maeda Akihiro. "If that place explodes, it's the end for all of us, so all I can do is send them encouragement."

The Japanese Self Defence pilots who have been flying the helicopters used to "water-bomb" the plant on Thursday, to try to help cool the fuel rods, have been restricted to missions lasting less than 40 minutes at a time, to try to restrict their exposure to radiation.

The Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, has paid tribute to all those involved in the efforts to stabilise conditions at the nuclear plant, describing how they are "making their best effort without even thinking twice about the danger".

When this crisis is over, some of the stories of individual heroism will start to emerge. Several of those battling to cool the fuel rods have been injured.

It must be hardest for their families, who sit and wait at home, not knowing what dangers their loved ones are facing, what damage they might have suffered and what problems might result in the years ahead.

"I didn't want him to go," one man's wife told a Japanese paper. "But he's been working in the nuclear industry since he was 18 and he's confident it's safe."

Spirulina - Help someone who suffers with radiation poisoning

When disaster struck with the 1986 reactor meltdown at Chernobyl in the Ukraine, approximately 134 plant workers and firefighters battling the fire at the Chernobyl plant were exposed to high radiation doses -- 80,000 to 1,600,000mrem (800 to 16,000 mSv) -- and suffered from acute radiation sickness. Of these, 28 died within the first 3 months from their radiation injuries. Two more patients died during the first days as a result of combined injuries from the fire and radiation.

Not just the Ukraine, but the neighboring state of Belarus was also affected. It received 70% of the radioactive fallout and 23% of its territory became contaminated with radioactivity.

In total, over 160,000 children and 146,000 cleanup workers became victims of radiation poisoning that produced higher incidents of birth defects, leukemia,anemia, cancers, thyroid disease, degeneration of spinal fluids, liver and bone marrow, and severely compromised immune systems.A British company, Earth rise UK, is reported to have sent shipments of spirulina tablets and spirulina powder (spirulina is a super green sea algae) to clinics in Belarus for the treatment of children suffering from radiation sickness after Chernobyl. Earth rise sent shipments to the Children of Chernobyl Committee in Minsk and Soviet physicians used the supplements in clinics in Minsk and Grodno, Belarus as well as in Kiev, Ukraine.

By taking 5 grams of spirulina a day for 45 days, the Institute of Radiation Medicine in Minsk found that the children showed enhanced immune systems and T-cell counts and reduced radioactivity.

The Institute also reported regeneration of bone marrow, spinal fluids, blood and the liver. Dangerously low white blood cell counts of about 1000, typical of leukemia, rose to an average of 3000 in 20 days, and the spirulina produced rapid improvements in the health of treated children compared to others who did not receive the algae.

In particular,spirulina reduced urine radioactivity levels by 50% in only 20 days time and so the Institute developed a special program to treat 100 children every 20 days with spirulina. Amazingly, health restoration was reported even when radiation sickness was so advanced that the children’s eyeballs were bulging out of their sockets. Furthermore, the healing occurred during the continuous presence of radiation as well as the presence of radiation contaminated food and water sources.

Based on the Institute of Radiation Medicine in Minsk results, the Belarus Ministry of Health concluded that spirulina accelerates the evacuation of radio nuclides from the human body.

In particular, spirulina given to children with accumulated high doses of radio nuclides reduced radioactive cesium. No side effects were registered. The Ministry of Health considered spirulina advisable for the treatment of people subject to radiation effects and requested more spirulina from overseas.

The reports on these spirulina studies by the Belarus Hospital of Radiation Medicine can be found in BSSR Mission to the UN."The Chernobyl Tragedy and the Children of Byelo russia" National Paper, World Summit for Children, Sep.1990. and Correspondence from the Children of Chernobyl Committee, Minsk.5/15/90.

A 1993 report confirms the 1990-91 research with spirulina on children with radiation sickness and concluded:

Use of spirulina decreases radioaction dose load received from food contaminated with radio nuclides, Cesium-137 and Strontium-90. Spirulina is favorable for normalizing the adaptative potential of children's bodies in conditions of long-lived low dose radiation.

As a result of this and other successes in treating radiation poisoning, in 1994 a Russian patent was awarded for spirulina as a medicine to reduce allergicre actions from radiation sickness.

There is also a report that children, aged 3 to 7 years old in Beryozovka (near Grodno on the Polish border), also suffered from the radio activity released from the Chernobyl accident. The children were also victims of lead poisoning due tothe presence of a strong local leaded glass industry. When spirulina was given to 49 of these children for 45 days, the physicians also found T-cell suppressors and beneficial hormones rose. In 83% of the children, the radioactivity of the urine once again decreased.

To date, we don’t really know why or how protection from radiation is exactly achieved by consuming spirulina. We just know it works. It has a high content of beta carotene that reduces free radical damage to cells and has even been used for treating cancer.

Spirulina is also extremely rich in highly bio available iron, which helps people recover from anemia. A significant portion of radiation sickness concerns the development of anemia, so eating anything that can help build the blood after radiation exposure would be helpful to the body.

Because it is extremely digestible, the super green algae spirulina also allows victims of malnutrition and malabsorption to absorb food more effectively and stems off those conditions. That’s an important concern in radiation sickness as well, and a reason this should become part of the standard diet. It’s chock full of nutrients and easy to digest and absorb when the body’s abilities in these are as are their weakest.

Spirulina has also been shown to reduce kidney poisoning in rats from heavy metal poisoning and pharmaceutical drugs (“The effect of spirulina on nephrotoxicity in rats,”Yamane Y, et al. Chiba Univ. Presented at Annual Symposium of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, April 15, 1988), and perhaps this heavy metal protective effect has a tie-in with binding and eliminating radio nuclides.

The kidneys are usually some of the first organs to suffer damage in radiationtoxicity, and research suggests when spirulina is taken with anti-cancer, anti bioticand painkilling drugs, toxic side effects to the kidneys can be significantly reduced and shorter recovery times may be possible.

That’s another radio protective tie-in.

Spirulina and other algae also contain high amounts of metallo-thio nine compounds, which scientists think may strip the body of radioactive metals and protect against radiation damage. That may be the major beneficial rocesswe’ve been looking for in order to put a name on it.

Research presented in Japan showed proteins combined with metals (metallo-thionine) had a strong protective effect from radiation, and since spirulina is a source of these compounds, that may help to explain its protective effects(Matsubara et al. "Radioprotective effect of metallo-thionine," presented at RadialRays Conference, Tokyo Japan 1985).

Research from China in 1989 also showed that an extract of spirulina had a positive protective effect from gamma radiation, too (“Radioprotective effect of extract from spirulina in mouse bone marrow cells studied by using the micro nucleus test,” Qishen P, Kolman et al.Toxicology Letters 1989; 48: 165-169).

So we now have definite cases here where -- beyond the shadow of a doubt --seaweeds and spirulina algae were found to help detoxification in cases of radiation poisoning.The reasons, of course, are complicated but involve the presence of rich sources of iodine, an over abundance of minerals and vitamins that promote healing and a healthy immune system, and the ability of compounds within these sea plants to bind heavy radioactive substances and eliminate them from the body.

由于东京大地震的负面消息传出,拖累了本区域股市全线挫跌;
上海指数报2933.79点,挫跌23.35点或0.79%;
深圳指数则报1万2848.02点,挫跌156.84点或1.21%;
香港恒生指数跌幅最重,闭市报2万3209.70点,挫跌405.21点或1.72%;
韩国首尔指数报1955.54点,挫跌26.04点或1.31%;
台湾加权指数报报8567.82点,跌75.08点或0.87%;
新加坡海峡时报指数报3039.3点,挫跌36.14点或1.18%;

A Refinery Rises in Malaysia -

Taking a Risk for Rare Earths
By KEITH BRADSHER , The New York Times
March 8, 2011

KUANTAN, Malaysia — A colossal construction project here could help determine whether the world can break China’s chokehold on the strategic metals crucial to products as diverse as Apple’s iPhone, Toyota’s Prius and Boeing’s smart bombs.

As many as 2,500 construction workers will soon be racing to finish the world’s largest refinery for so-called rare earth metals — the first rare earth ore processing plant to be built outside China in nearly three decades.

For Malaysia and the world’s most advanced technology companies, the plant is a gamble that the processing can be done safely enough to make the local environmental risks worth the promised global rewards.

Once little known outside chemistry circles, rare earth metals have become increasingly vital to high-tech manufacturing. But as Malaysia learned the hard way a few decades ago, refining rare earth ore usually leaves thousands of tons of low-level radioactive waste behind.

So the world has largely left the dirty work to Chinese refineries — processing factories that are barely regulated and in some cases illegally operated, and have created vast toxic waste sites.

But other countries’ wariness has meant that China now mines and refines at least 95 percent of the global supply of rare earths. And Beijing has aroused international alarm by wielding that virtual monopoly as a global trade weapon.

Last September, for example, China imposed a two-month embargo on rare earth shipments to Japan during a territorial dispute, and for a short time even blocked some shipments to the United States and Europe. Beijing’s behavior, which has also included lowering the export limit on its rare earths, has helped propel world prices of the material to record highs — and sent industrial countries scrambling for alternatives.

Even now, though, countries with their own rare earth ore deposits are not always eager to play host to the refineries that process them. An American company, Molycorp, plans to reopen an abandoned mine near Death Valley in California; but Molycorp must completely rebuild the adjacent refinery to address environmental concerns.

All of this helps explain why a giant Australian mining company, Lynas, is hurrying to finish a $230 million rare earth refinery here, on the northern outskirts of Malaysia’s industrial port of Kuantan. The plant will refine slightly radioactive ore from the Mount Weld mine deep in the Australian desert, 2,500 miles away. The ore will be trucked to the Australian port of Fremantle and transported by container ship from there.

Within two years, Lynas says, the refinery will be able to meet nearly a third of the world’s demand for rare earth materials — not counting China, which has its own abundant supplies.

Nicholas Curtis, Lynas’s executive chairman, said it would cost four times as much to build and operate such a refinery in Australia, which has much higher labor and construction costs. Australia is also home to an environmentally minded and politically powerful Green party.

Despite the potential hazards, the Malaysian government was eager for investment by Lynas, even offering a 12-year tax holiday. If rare earth prices stay at current lofty levels, the refinery will generate $1.7 billion a year in exports starting late next year, equal to nearly 1 percent of the entire Malaysian economy.

Raja Dato Abdul Aziz bin Raja Adnan, the director general of the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board, said his country approved the Lynas project only after an interagency review indicated the imported ore and subsequent waste would have low enough levels of radioactivity to be manageable and safe.

Malaysia had reason to be cautious: Its last rare earth refinery, operated by the Japanese company Mitsubishi Chemical, is now one of Asia’s largest radioactive waste cleanup sites.

“We have learned we shouldn’t give anybody a free hand,” Raja Adnan said.

Despite such assurances, critics are not convinced that the low-level radioactive materials at the Lynas project will be safe.

“The word ‘low’ here is just a matter of perception — it’s a carcinogen,” said Dr. Jayabalan A. Thambyappa, a general practitioner physician and toxicologist. He has treated leukemia victims whose illnesses he and others have attributed to the old Mitsubishi Chemical refinery.

That plant, on the other side of the Malay peninsula, closed in 1992 after years of sometimes violent demonstrations by citizens protesting its polluting effects. Now, in an engineering effort that has largely escaped the outside world’s notice, Mitsubishi is engaged in a $100 million cleanup.

Rare earths, a group of 17 elements, are not radioactive themselves. But virtually every rare earth ore deposit around the world contains, in varying concentrations, a slightly radioactive element called thorium.

Radiation concerns — along with low-cost Chinese competition — eventually forced the closing of all rare earth refineries in Japan. It was during this phase-out that Mitsubishi moved its refining operation to Malaysia, where old tin mines had left behind thousands of tons of semiprocessed slag that was rich in rare earth ore. It also had extremely high levels of radioactive thorium.

The new Lynas refinery, with nearly two dozen interconnected buildings and 50 acres of floor space, will house the latest in pollution control equipment and radiation sensors. A signature feature will be 12 acres of interim storage pools that will be lined with dense plastic and sit atop nearly impermeable clay, to hold the slightly radioactive byproducts until they can be carted away.

But carted to where? That is still an open question.

Building the lined storage pools was one of the promises Lynas had made to win permission to put the refinery here, in an area already environmentally damaged by the chemical plants that line the narrow, muddy Balok River.

Mr. Curtis, the Lynas chairman, insists that the new factory will be much cleaner and far safer than the old Mitsubishi plant, which “never should have been built,” he said recently, as he led a tour of the sprawling Lynas refinery construction site here.

One big difference, he said, is that the ore being imported from Australia is much less radioactive. It will have only 3 to 5 percent of the thorium per ton found in the tin mine tailings that Mitsubishi had processed. And he said the Lynas factory would also process 10 times as much ore with only twice as many employees — about 450 in all — thanks to automation that will keep workers away from potentially harmful materials.

But the long-term storage of the Lynas plant’s radioactive thorium waste is still unresolved.

After using sulfuric acid to dissolve the rare earths out of the concentrated ore, Lynas plans to mix the radioactive part of the waste with lime. The aim is to dilute it to a thorium concentration of less than 0.05 percent — the maximum permitted under international standards to allow the material to be disposed with few restrictions.

Lynas wants to turn this mixture into large concrete shapes known as tetrapods that are used to build artificial reefs for fish and as sea walls to prevent beach erosion.

Local residents seem to be of two minds about the sprawling plant being built near the river. The river empties into the ocean several miles away, next to an impoverished fishing village, where on a recent evening a small group of fisherman sat at the end of a wooden dock.

Muhamad Ishmail, age 56, said pollution from the chemical factories that started opening upstream in the 1990s had forced local fishing — a river industry for generations — to move primarily out to sea. Although one of his five children works in the nearby industrial district, Mr. Ishmail said he did not want Lynas or anyone else to open any more factories.

“This river used to be clean, and you could catch fish right here,” he said.

But Muhamad Anuar, 30, said his community needed the reliable paychecks that Lynas might offer. “I have two kids, and I don’t want them to be fishermen,” he said. “It’s a hard job.”

KNM目标价为RM4.35

符号名称:兑上缺;

五 行:阴金;
属 性:喜悦;
五 位:西方〔方道:西方〕;
人事现象:少女〔少女、妾、歌妓、伶人、译人、巫师、奴仆婢〕;
动 物:羊〔羊、泽中之物〕;
地理位置:崩破之山地、泉〔泽、水际、缺池、废井,山崩破裂之地,其地为刚卤〕;

季 节:秋;
八门方位:惊门;
紫白九星:七赤;
天运九星:破军;
宅局九星:破军;
